Praying for the Peace of Jerusalem

For a couple of weeks now I’ve been praying that the Holy Spirit would lead in what to pray.

Though I normally get right to my morning devotions, this morning I rather randomly checked my email first and opened only one message before beginning to pray.  The email was from the Jerusalem Prayer Team concerning what is happening right now in Israel.

In the email Mike Evans, the founder of this organization and a personal friend of Prime Minister Netanyahu, says, “I am leaving in the morning for Jerusalem to stand in the gap as your Ambassador. Please pray for me on this trip. President Obama will arrive in a few days to promote his “peace plan” that calls for dividing Jerusalem and returning most of Judea and Samaria (the so-called “West Bank”) to the Palestinians. This is a spirit battle that you must fight with me. ”

This news was laid heavily on my heart and I cried out to the Lord on behalf of Jerusalem and the Lord’s chosen people, praying earnestly for the peace of Jerusalem as scripture commands in Psalm 122:6. sacrifice

As always, I then asked the Lord to lead me in the reading of His Word, and He did.  I never know where He will lead.  I never know if He’ll speak about what I just prayed about, or if He’ll bring up something from days ago, or if He’ll rebuke, or teach, or direct, or comfort.  I only know He’s there, and that I’m there with Him because of His grace.

Immediately after praying about this threat to divide Jerusalem, the Lord provided comfort and answers through His Word.  By the hand of Providence, I unexpectedly opened scripture to Ezekiel 36 & 37, chapters of prophesy which are very applicable to our time, and to this very hour…

The first words given this morning were Ezekiel 36: 1-6, “And you, son of man, prophesy to the mountains of Israel, and say, ‘O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the LORD!  ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Because the enemy has said of you, ‘Aha! The ancient heights have become our possession,‘  therefore prophesy, and say, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Because they made you desolate and swallowed you up on every side, so that you became the possession of the rest of the nations, and you are taken up by the lips of talkers and slandered by the people“—

‘therefore, O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD! Thus says the Lord GOD to the mountains, the hills, the rivers, the valleys, the desolate wastes, and the cities that have been forsaken, which became plunder and mockery to the rest of the nations all around—’therefore thus says the Lord GOD: “Surely I have spoken in My burning jealousy against the rest of the nations and against all Edom, who gave My land to themselves as a possession, with wholehearted joy and spiteful minds, in order to plunder its open country.”

I believe America will be open to the wrath of God if we continue down this path of enmity toward Isreal and toward God, and it greives me greatly.  I fear what will become of us as a nation.   Our only hope is in Christ, who has made a way of salvation for those who believe.  Maranatha.

So, what do you think?
